Last Blog For A Little While

Well, this is going to be the last post for a little while. As you may have already noticed alot of the latest blogs are on the same day, this is due to what's been happening personally and the time I have unfortunately not been able to set aside. So, what is on my agenda, study, a little break to relax and whatever comes around the corner. I may even if I have time in the break, I might add more to my website, by expanding and adding more content. So, for now goodnight and will be posting a little later on.

The Last Tutorial

So, here it is, the last tutorial of the semester. I am happy and sad at the same time, looking forward to the study break but really nervous about the exams. Anyway, the class was good, getting to see everyone's videos and what they did for their group project. I was nervous about talking infront of the class, so when I spoke I kind of freaked a little, not sure if I was clear enough to understand, Also, I wasn't sure what people were thinking in the process I had used in making the video. The way I created the video probably wouldn't be a good way for other's to do it but it worked for me. The next time I do something like this I may either upload it different or have a little more time in making it to try out a different way for myself.

Making of the Movie

As you have seen from my previous post that Breanna had sent me a powerpoint with what could be used for the movie. From that I created a powerpoint that was formatted, added to and editted to use for the movie. Tess even helped in placing in a basic idea on what could be put into each slide, typed into the notes section in powerpoint. Once the powerpoint was made, I tried using jing to record but I found the recording was not of good quality from my computer and when I mucked it up I had to restart again. It took me about half an hour to get through half the slides, without mucking it up. It became very time consuming and I had an essay for another unit to complete, so time wasn't on my side. I remembered using Windows Movie Maker back in year nine, so back in about 2006, for a computering project. For that project, I made a movie using video footage, pictures and music for the pre-primary class, based on what they had done for the first part of the school year. I decided on the movie maker because I have an idea in how the older version worked and I thought I could work on and grasp the idea and use of the newer version. So, I began working on it.

I began by putting the powerpoint into slide view (full screen) and used jing to get the screen captures and saved them to my pictures folder. From there, I upload them into Windows Live Movie Maker and placed them into order. This took me about an hour to complete. After that I decided that I could use my phone not only for the fact that the recording was a little bit better in quality to my computer but for a few other reasons..

- I have used my phone before for recordings, so I had an idea on where to place it, to have the recordings at about the same volume
- It is also handheld
- I could easily delete and re-record the audio, when I needed
- Playback was simple
- I could read from the basic speech from each slide
- It has an SD Card and I have an adapter that plugs into my computer

Once all the speech was recorded, which took half an hour to fourty-five mintutes to complete, I plug in the adapter with the SD Card and uploaded the audio into Windows Live Movie Maker. I then played both together and started matching the slides and the audio, to be able to link them together and have the timing right. After that, It was completed. I saved and then placed it onto our wikispaces.

This may seem like a very lengthy way to do it, but for me it was pretty easy. I had an idea on how to use the program and once I had a rhythm going, it didn't take long to finish. I personally wouldn't teach or show someone to do it this way, I would try out and use easier avenues and other programs, that can be explained and used without any complications or confusion.
Group Project

For the group project, I was in a group with Breanna and Tess. In the first class we had where we were discussing what we were going to do, we decided on the lifecycle of the frog. We also created a list in class of what needed to be done, then Tess set out and created our wikispace page. Throughout the creation of the page, we all added in resources we had found and ideas we had for the project, that the students were going to do in the couple of weeks. After we had the resources and our ideas, we put them together and created one main project that the students would do. Once we had finished our page, Breanna sent me a powerpoint with the ideas that could be used for the video. From that I then started to put the video together.

Another hospital visit

I think my family enjoys our visits to the hospital, cause it seems to be something we do often. For example, a couple of weeks ago, not even two weeks after my brother had his appendicitis, my sister was admitted to hospital. She went from Rockingham Hospital and was tranferred to Princess Margaret Hopsital. The issue she had as to why she was admitted, was because she had a cyst that had erupted and caused her appendix to flare up, meaning she had an appendicitis and had to have it removed. She is now back at school and doing better and things have settled down.

After easter and the study break - Hospital visit

Hey,
Well I am here to let you know what happened after easter and the study break. Well, I went back to uni on the Monday the 16th of April. That night we had to rush my 15 year old brother to hospital because he had some weird stomach pains. After the doctors did an examination and blood test, we found out that he had an appendicitis. I managed 3 hours of sleep that night and then travelled to the Fremantle hospital with my mum, little sister and my brother's girlfriend. We were there all day Tuesday, waiting for a time in which they will perform the operation. No operation Tuesday so they decided to do it 10am Wednesday morning. My mother wanted to be there with him before and after the operation so I stayed and looked after my sister. That afternoon, we went up and saw him. The Thursday afternoon was when he was allowed to come home.

Due to what had happened it made it hard to concerntrate, usually I am pretty alright when it comes to family being in hospital because mum and dad have been there before, but the feeling is a little different when it's one of your younger siblings. Being the older sibling, you try to protect them and look after them but what I did to help was being strong and supportive for everyone around me. He is home now, feeling heaps better and moving around alot more. So, now I can get stuck back into what I was doing and finish assignment 2.

It's been a while.. Plus easter and study break

So.. as you can see it has definately been a while since I have lasted posted, but I have been so distracted and busy. I will post about this blog tonight and the rest in my next blog. So to begin, I finished assignments that were due before the easter and study break, then the easter break was here. Lots and lots of chocolate, yummo at first than gahh.. cause you do get sick of it after a while.

The easter break started Friday, my family and myself went and met my brother's girlfriend's family. We gave them some cute little easter baskets that mum had made. Then on the Saturday we drove up to Perth to see Nanna and the other relatives (uncles, aunts and cousins). We gave them all their chocolate and then took Nanna to the shops for coffee and cake. Sunday came along and we went and saw my Aunty's house in the Rockingham Area, where we had coffee and gave out chocolate to her and my cousins. So that was an Easter well done. I loved seeing Nanna and the relatives after not seeing them for a while. Then it was study break.. catch up on housework, doing homework/study, completing assignments and getting sorted before heading back.

Post Before Submitting

Just before I submit my website, I am just going to go over what happened in the lecture and the tutorial. In the lecture we were reminded about installing EndNote in preparation for future assignments, information about authentic learning and how technology can be used, one example of technology was a story that was made into a podcast on an iPod. Other information that was given to us was research sites we can use and library databases. In the tutorial, it was about our assignment 1b being due, start thinking about assignment 2 and the EndNote. With the EndNote, we were told that there will be a session based on it next week, which will be good to see how it works and how to use it. A little tired at the moment, so I will head off for now but will be back to update in the future, stay tuned.
A Quick Post

This is just a quick post before I go to bed. So, I received my peer review back, I only had the suggestions, one was of not blogging more than once a day and as you can see I posted 4 times in one day and I didn't even realise oops.. I am going to pay a little more attention to how many times a day, I think 1 to 2 times a day would be better than 4. The other thing that was suggested was adding more resources within the blogs, so I am going to go back over and where I can add a link I will do that and in future I will do that to. So, I am happy with the suggestions and the results that were given. I am going to log off now and head to bed but tomorrow I am going to add a blog about this week, the lecture, tutorial and how I am feeling about the assignment 1b before submitting it. So stay tuned and goodnight.

Just Noticed and Grrr..

The just noticed part is that I just uploaded my last blog 2 minutes or so ago and noticed the spacing in the blogs are a little odd. I have no idea why that is.. hmm.. looks like, I might have to check that out later on and either fix it or try to reload each blog entry again. Another mystery or question yet to be answered.

The added Grrr.. part is because I edited my installing iTunes PDF after I added a few things to it and the Yola site for some reason just won't let me have that part up. I did save it properly and I have gone in and resaved, upload again etc. but it just won't work. Might try again tomorrow and see if that helps. Another thing to checkout and problem solve, so with that until tomorrow and goodnight.

Ok, I am adding to this same blog in regards to the Grrr.. part of this blog. It wasn't really goodnight yet because I decided to try one more thing. I logged out and closed my internet browser. Then I reopened my internet browser and logged back in. That seem to have worked because what I wanted to be in that PDF is now there by the look of things. So now I am fairly happy with it, that I am now going to log off now and say goodnight. Goodnight.
